ADDISON, Maine — The Pleasant River Historical Society and the Washington Hancock County Farm
Bureau is sponsoring an “APPLE WALK” on the historic Ridge Road in
Addison (about 1 mile off Rte 1) on Friday afternoon, September 12th from
3-6pm. The walk will be led by John Bunker of Maine’s own FEDCO, a noted
pomologist, specializing in historic apple trees. He will identify many examples
of early apples both growing wild and being cultivated on Addison’s Ridge–
an early 19th C. commercial apple center. The trees are all within ½ mile or so.
The walk will be held rain or shine so come prepared!!!
Bring your own examples from your home or farm and he will identify them. He
also will have suggestions as to care and propagation.
The walkers will gather on the lawn of Richard and Cheryl Paul at 253 Ridge Road.
For ease come in off US Rte 1 North by “DELIA’s”. Follow the apple signs!!!
Refreshments will be available as will limited mobility access by reservation
only for those with difficulty walking.
