BANGOR — Seniors looking for something to do can stretch their brains and have fun, all at once. Penobscot Valley Senior College offers six-week courses on a wide variety of topics with no grades, papers, or exams. “It’s not really college,” members say, “just a great chance to learn a lot and socialize with no pressure.”

PVSC is looking for new members. The only requirement is to be over 50. Two-hour classes meet for six weeks in the fall and spring, in convenient, accessible Bangor-area locations.

A dozen or so courses are offered each session. Recent topics have included everything from Maine wildlife and drawing to Supreme Court cases, aging, and using the iPhone.

Courses are taught by volunteer instructors who are experts in their fields. Membership and tuition costs are low, and members can attend special events at no additional cost.
