WALDOBORO, Maine — The Damariscotta Area 4th Sunday Sacred Harp Singing will be held 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at St. Paul’s Union Chapel, Dutchneck Road in Waldoboro. There will be a potluck supper, so please bring a dish to pass.

As always, we welcome beginners, curious friends and passing strangers to join us in song. The singing is primarily from the The Sacred Harp, 1991 Denson edition, a shapenote tunebook that has been in continuous publication with periodic revisions since 1844. The music consists of hymns, fuging tunes, anthems, and other songs in a style rooted in Colonial New England, popular in Maine up until the Civil War and in areas of the rural South and West up to the present day.  Books will be available to borrow or purchase.
