WATERVILLE, Maine — Crisis & Counseling Centers will host its 2014 annual meeting and dinner 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Waterville Elks Banquet & Conference Center. This event is open to all and celebrates businesses and individuals who go above and beyond to help people with mental illness, substance abuse issues and co-occurring disorders.

The 2014 theme, “A Beacon of Hope,” honors the courage of the people C&C serves. Business leaders, legislators, agency heads, public safety personnel and others gather yearly for this opportunity to connect and commend C&C’s life-affirming work.

The event will include recognition of some of C&C’s key community partners, including Kevin Mannix and his wife Linda Rota as CEO Special Recognition Award winners. Crisis & Counseling Centers will also honor Motivational Services (MoCo) with its Agency of the Year Award and Somerset Regional Communications Center with its Public Safety Award.

Mannix and Rota, recipients of the CEO Special Recognition Award, will be recognized for their commitment to those with mental health and substance abuse disorders in Maine. Mannix has been a part of the WCSH 6 NEWS CENTER weather team since 1989. With his wife’s support, Mannix began addressing his father’s substance abuse issues in 2013 in a series of frank public addresses. His 10-year journey of healing has inspired countless Mainers to begin their own hard work of recovery. Rota has spent more than 30 years in social work, including her current career in child welfare.

The evening will include non-alcoholic beverages, appetizers and a buffet dinner. CEO Lynn Duby and Board President Dana Hamilton will provide commentary, followed by award presentations and a tribute to C&C’s short-term Crisis Stabilization Units. Musical entertainment will be provided by flautist Debbie Leschinski.

Tickets are now available for $25 per person or $150 for a table of eight. To register for C&C’s Annual Meeting & Dinner, visit
