Pittsfield Public Library presents the 2013 Persis Smith Community Reads program in October. The featured book is “All Standing: The Remarkable Story of the Jeanie Johnston, The Legendary Irish Famine Ship” by Kathryn Miles. Miles, a resident of Belfast, Maine, will set the stage (introduce the topic) with a talk about the Irish potato famine on Wednesday, October 2 at 6:00. This will be followed with a talk about Michael Connolly about the Irish immigrants in Maine and a potluck supper on Thursday, October 3 at 4:00. Connolly, of Portland, Maine, has done extensive research on Irish immigrants and edited “They Change Their Sky: The Irish in Maine”. The Community Reads program will conclude book with a discussion led by Kathryn Miles on Thursday, October 10 at 4:00.
