In collaboration with the Acadia Astronomical Society, the Southwest Harbor
Public Library is pleased to invite Nate Levesque, a photographer based in
Hampden, Maine, to present his astrophotography and talk about his work on
Wednesday, August 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Southwest Harbor Public Library. The
monthly meeting of the Acadia Astronomical Society will take place at 7:00
p.m., prior to the presentation. Nate’s beautiful image, “Sand Beach Milky
Way” was selected as the 2014 poster image for the 6th Annual Acadia Night
Sky Festival, September 25-29, 2014.
“I am a photo enthusiast based in Hampden, Maine. I have lived in Maine all
my life and have found inspiration in the beautiful landscapes and
seascapes of this great state. I have been playing around with photography
for a few years, but it has only been within the last year that I have
truly dedicated myself to learning the craft. I have dabbled in all forms
of photography and I find myself to be the most comfortable with landscapes
and cityscapes. I have always been drawn to creative outlets, whether it is
music, design, or photography. Not only have I felt a strong connection
with photography, but it has also changed the way I see the world around
me. I really enjoy pushing myself as a photographer and as an artist, and I
hope to continue this trend in the future.”
Last summer he combined his love of photography and astronomy and began
capturing the night sky in Acadia National Park. He spent nearly every
weekend in Acadia over the last summer and hopes to do the same this year.
This is a free program and the members of the public are welcome to join
the meeting and the presentation.
