Penobscot Valley Chapter of Maine Audubon Presents Nature Night @ The Sea Dog: Bats and Brews

Community Author:
Post Date:

Susan Gallo, Maine Audubon staff biologist, will present a program on Maine’s bats and the mysterious white-nose syndrome that has killed off millions of bats in the US and Canada in less than a decade. Bats are very important to our ecosystem; they provide insect control, plant pollination, and seed dissemination, and they are a vital link in the food chain for many species of microorganisms, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals. Susan will describe the lifecycle and habits of these mysterious creatures of the night sky, and will discuss ongoing efforts to research and combat the deadly effects of white-nose syndrome.
