Session 2 : “As You Like It”

For ages: 12-20

Session dates: July 30-Aug. 19

Performance dates: Aug. 16-19

A glimpse into the Forest of Arden finds teenagers of Shakespeare’s play much like those of today-discovering that love is complicated. Rosalind disguises herself as a boy in her scheme to win Orlando’s love. But they are just one of several pairs of odd couples that make this play fun. Meet Audrey, the shepherdess, and Touchstone, the jester; Silvius, the lovesick teenager, and Phebe, the apple of his eye. As the characters try to untangle the web they have woven, the excitement in the forest keeps the audience laughing.

Tech Track

Both summer sessions offer Tech Track, a special course of study for young people aged 13 and up interested in work behind the scenes, including set design and construction, stage management, prop design and construction, costuming, lighting, and sound. Because production and performance go hand-in-hand, Tech Track participants will learn alongside their performing peers. Through Tech Track, students will get valuable hands-on training and play an integral role in producing “Les Miserables”, “Junie B. Jones Is Not a Crook” and “As You Like It”.

Classes will run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (lunch, noon-1 p.m., optional) for students aged 4-6; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for students aged 7 and up. Tech Track will run daily Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students may be dropped off as early as 8:30 a.m.

A limited number of scholarships and teen counselor positions are available for each session. Scholarship and counselor applications may be obtained by emailing education@penobscottheatre.org and must be returned by May 1.

Penobscot Theatre Dramatic Academy summer programs are approved programs for families who qualify for a child care tax credit.
