LUBEC — Lubec Elementary School announces the formation of the Parent Teacher Community Collaboration (PTCC), a new group focused on bringing engaging programs and fun events to the children of the community.
“We wanted to create something a little different than the traditional PTA (Parent Teacher Association),” said teacher Anna Street, “something that taps into the phenomenal pool of life experience in our community, while focusing on doing things for the children’s enrichment.”
The first meeting, held on Jan. 11, 2018, brought together teachers, parents and community members to brainstorm ideas and begin fundraising for future events.
“This community always turns out for school plays, concerts and craft days,” said teacher Debbie Bousquet, “our hope is to give parents and community members a hands-on opportunity to offer the kids even more activities”.
The PTCC is actively seeking program and speaker ideas from the public, fun projects like movie nights and other outside school events, as well as educational programs, theatre events, workshops, and storytelling. Contact the PTCC at the Lubec Elementary School 733-5561, or attend the next meeting March 1, 6pm in room 102, Lubec Elementary, 44 South St. in Lubec.
“We’re open to all kinds of ideas”, said parent Sherry Evers, “if you can donate your time, resources, or pass along the memory of a great program offered when you were in school, we want to hear from you.”
A Valentine dance is already planned for Feb. 9, and a flower sale is currently underway to raise funds.
“Some school programs we’ve looked into are quite expensive often over a thousand dollars,” parent Nicole Lyons said, “We’re open to pledges from the community if anyone can help.”
Carnations are being sold for $2 each and include a small message wishing your special someone a Happy Valentines Day. Flowers will be delivered within the school or can be picked up at the school on Feb. 14, orders can be placed now by filling out a form at the school office.
