The firm’s bankruptcy practice group grows with the addition of Andrew Helman

PORTLAND– Portland-based law firm Murray Plumb & Murray has expanded its bankruptcy practice group with the addition of new partner Andrew Helman.

Helman is a business, work-out, and restructuring attorney who works with all types of businesses, including those in the healthcare sector, to help them protect their assets. A large part of his work is focused on helping clients, both debtors and creditors, find solutions to problems caused by financial distress, and counseling them on how to avoid those problems in the future. He also represents clients in distressed and non-distressed transactions, business litigation, and preference actions.

“We are excited to welcome Andrew not only because his wealth of experience will be a valuable asset to our firm, but by bringing him on we are able to expand our bankruptcy practice group and grow the services we offer our clients,” said Murray Plumb & Murray Managing Director Drew Anderson.

Andrew has been involved in some of the most significant chapter 11 cases in Maine and New Hampshire in recent years, including representation of the debtor-in-possession in the largest healthcare bankruptcy case in Maine’s history.

He frequently writes articles for national insolvency publications and teaches seminars on bankruptcy and fraudulent transfer law. He has authored a dozen legal articles published in journals such as the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal, the ABA Commercial Law Newsletter, and the Maine Bar Journal. Helman was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2015-2017 issues of Super Lawyers & Rising Stars and was one of 40 attorneys nationally to participate in the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges’ 2016 NextGen Program. Most recently, Helman was an associate at Marcus Clegg.

Helman received his JD degree from the University of Maine School of Law and a BA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is currently a resident of Freeport, Maine.
