NORTHEAST HARBOR — Mount Desert 365 has announced that its construction project on Old Firehouse Lane in Northeast Harbor has begun. The new two-story structure will provide office space for staff and become the new headquarters for Maine Seacoast Mission.

The new building will be in sight of its ship’s home port, bringing nine new full-time year-round jobs into Northeast Harbor. The building also will have two apartments, each with two bedrooms, on the second floor available for year-round rental arrangements.

A4 Architects from Bar Harbor has designed the building and E.L. Shea is the general contractor for the project. The first phase of construction, which includes water, sewer and storm water connections, has just gotten underway. On-site construction of the new building should commence in June.

The building design has gone through a few iterations, making adjustments based on feedback from a variety of stakeholders to arrive at a final plan that meets community needs and fits well within the village. The project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2020.
