MMC appoints trauma medical director

PORTLAND, Maine — Maine Medical Center has announced that Kristen Sihler, M.D., M.S., has been named Trauma Medical Director, leading Maine’s only Level 1 trauma program, which earned re-verification earlier this year from the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.

Dr. Sihler has been a surgeon at MMC since 2010, and previously served as an attending surgeon at the University of Michigan. Since 2011, she has served as an assistant clinical professor in the Tufts University School of Medicine.

She completed her medical school training at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and also holds an M.S. in Epidemiology from the University of Iowa College of Public Health. Dr. Sihler completed her residency in general surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and her trauma/critical care fellowship at the University of Washington. She is an accomplished author and teacher, and is a member of a number of professional societies, including the American College of Surgeons and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma.
