Former Gov. John Baldacci and the United Way of Androscoggin County will hold a spaghetti dinner at Lewiston High School to raise money for the Lewiston Fire Relief Fund.

The dinner will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., June 12, at the school, which is located at 156 East Ave. in Lewiston.

“It’s horrific to see a community suffer like Lewiston has,” Baldacci said. “In Maine, neighbors help neighbors. It’s what we do. It’s in our DNA. The supper is our way of saying we are all in this together. We’re all here to help.”

Tickets are $5, but donations of all sizes will be welcomed and all the money raised will go to the United Way of Androscoggin County for its Lewiston relief effort.

Attendees can expect the Baldacci’s homemade secret spaghetti sauce accompanied with salad and desserts.

The three fires that occurred in downtown Lewiston between April 29 and May 6 destroyed the homes and belongings of 180 residents. Generous donations from businesses and individuals from all over Maine have been instrumental in helping these residents find new housing. Ongoing financial support from the fund will provide fire victims with the long-term assistance they need to get back on their feet.

“We do what we can do with the tools we have to try to improve the lives of others. There’s nothing like good food to bring a community together,” Baldacci said. “I have no doubt that Lewiston will rebound with community strength.”
