ELLSWORTH—Nonprofit and public organizations seeking funding for projects that strengthen communities are encouraged to apply to the Maine Community Foundation’s Community Building Grant Program.
A volunteer committee of Piscataquis County residents reviews grants and makes recommendations for funding. The deadline for applying is Thursday, Feb. 15. Applicants should note that the grant criteria and application questions have changed. Application and guidelines are available at www.mainecf.org.
In 2017, the committee awarded $43,000 in grants to six nonprofits. They included:
- $3,150 to Center Theatre, Inc., to bring professional theater instructors to work with area schools on the 2018 One-Act Play Festival
- $10,000 to Maine Highlands Senior Center, for Senior Commons Community Conversations to encourage community participation in program development
- $8,395 to MSAD #68, to provide additional co-curricular opportunities for students to support healthy lifestyles.
