ELLSWORTH, Maine — The Penobscot County Committee of the Maine Community Foundation recently awarded $88,909 in grants to 12 nonprofits, including Penobscot Theatre Company, to develop a high school internship program.
Other grant recipients include:
— Four Directions Development Corp., to increase affordable housing development capacity in Wabanaki communities.
— Maine Discovery Museum, for development of a pre-kindergarten program with area schools.
— Penquis CAP, Inc., to create a library of videos to help youth with autism spectrum disorders.
The Penobscot County Fund is a permanent endowment that supports projects to strengthen communities in Penobscot County. Applications to the fund are reviewed by a committee of local leaders. The next proposal deadline is Feb. 15, 2015. The application and guidelines can be found at www.mainecf.org.
