Casco, Maine –  Tropical Smoothie Café sponsored this week’s winter oncology session at Camp Sunshine where they presented the charity with a check for $908,510. Camp Sunshine is a year-round, cost-free retreat in Casco, Maine for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

“In our 10th year of fundraising for Camp Sunshine, the Tropical Smoothie Café franchisees, team members and guests once again stepped up and raised over $900,000 in 2017, putting our total donations since our relationship began to more than $5 million,” said Tropical Smoothie Café CEO, Mike Rotondo. “Each year, we continue to be so encouraged by the amazing work that Camp Sunshine does, offering a destination that provides memorable experiences for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.”

While at Camp Sunshine, families will be able to relax, connect with other families, and enjoy all that winter in Maine has to offer. In addition to indoor activities including the pool, arts and crafts, and evening entertainment, families can also enjoy snowshoeing, sledding, ice skating and an afternoon of skiing or snowboarding lessons.

The funds raised by Tropical Smoothie Café will also go to sponsoring a summer oncology session, help with family transportation assistance, as well as assist with other camp needs. Nine employees from various Tropical Smoothie Café locations also volunteered during the February 16-20 winter session.

“We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of Tropical Smoothie Café,” said Camp Sunshine’s Executive Director, Michael Katz. “Not only have they raised a substantial amount of money for Camp Sunshine over the years, they have also been instrumental in increasing awareness and helping families outside of Maine learn about the programs that are offered here.”

Camp Sunshine continues to earn Charity Navigator’s highest nonprofit rating for sound fiscal management and is accredited by the American Camp Association.
