Madawaska Council Chambers. The town now provides the full board agenda packets online.

Madawaska – In an effort to promote greater transparency in the Town’s local government, effective immediately, Madawaska Board of Selectmen agenda packets will be posted online at the Town of Madawaska website.
“For years the town has been posting the agenda and the meeting minutes online. WOWL films the Board meetings and those are posted online a few days after the meeting. We felt it was just the right thing to do, to upload the entire board agenda packets which will include all of the meeting materials that the Selectmen receive along with the agenda for every meeting,” said town manager Ryan D. Pelletier.
Madawaska’s Board of Selectmen have really tried to make local government completely user friendly and promote the use of online technology as much possible, the town manager explained. In the 2015-2016 budget, for example, the Town included funding to equip board members with iPads to use during Board meetings. In addition, the iPads mirror with the presentation system in the Board room, so anyone attending the meetings in person or watching the meetings via Channel 16 or online can see exactly what the Selectmen are seeing.
“Our residents are our constituents, and we love to hear feedback from them. By providing them with as much information as possible, we feel that our citizens will be better informed about the decisions we make and the rationale behind those decisions,” stated Board Chairman Brian Thibeault.
Town Manager Pelletier explained that a lot of work goes into preparing the agenda packets each month. “There is sometimes a lot of material for the Board to review. It’s not as simple as 15-20 items on a one page agenda. For example, Pelletier explained that the upcoming meeting on October 24th has over 80 pages of backup information that the Selectmen need to read and be prepared for during each meeting,” Pelletier said.
