BANGOR, Maine — Heather Littlefield,  32, of Bangor is getting ready to compete in a rally race in Harrisville, New York, Sept. 20-21.

Littlefield has been a rally motorsports enthusiast since 2005 when she discovered the sport on YouTube. After volunteering for 7 rally events on the east coast since 2011, Littlefield has secured a seat in a competitor’s car where she will navigate at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour through the woods of New York.

Littlefield grew up locally in Bar Harbor and attended Mount Desert Island High School. She is currently enrolled in Husson Universities, New England School of Communications Marketing Communications Program. Littlefield intends to start her own motorsports marketing company after she completes the bachelors program at Nescom. She is mother to a 7 year old son who has high functioning autism. Littlefield hopes to someday have her own rally car and team in which she will race to help spread autism awareness.

“I’m very excited to have this opportunity to co-drive and to be supported by such a great community. I’m looking forward to tearing up some gravel on the back roads of New York and looking for a nice clean finish. We don’t race for cash prizes, we race for the love of the sport,” Littlefield said.

Twisted Nuts Racing, the team Littlefield is co-driving for, is based out of Wellsboro, PA. The team has set up a GoFundMe online fundraiser to help cover team costs for the Black River Stages event in New York. “Rally racing is a very expensive sport. Just for us to be able to compete at Black River Stages it’s going to cost us approximately $4,500. Entry fee alone is almost a thousand dollars,” Littlefield said.

Black River Stages is an off road rally and motto racing event that takes place in Harrisville, New York on September 20th-21st 2014. More than 100 competitors come from all across the United States and some as far as over seas.
