Sedgwick craftsman Stephen Rowles will do a presentation at the Blue Hill Public Library on Thursday, October 20th at 7:00 PM on the methods and materials for making violins, cellos and violas. He will show some of the stringed instruments he has made and talk about what it takes to get a good sound. Local violinists will demonstrate the instruments, and the audience will be welcome to try them too.
Rowles graduated from The North Bennett Street School in Boston, which is known for its intensive, hands-on training in traditional trades and fine craftsmanship. He then worked in the Johnson String Instruments repair shop in Newton, Massachusetts for six years. He moved to Sedgwick in 2002 and has a shop where he makes and repairs violins, violas and cellos.
This event is sponsored by the Library. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome. For more information, call the Library at 374-5515.
