Informational onslaught as the main “weapon” against Ukraine in the world weapon market.

Basic mechanisms of using modern informational technologies in competition for promising markets of selling weapon are seen easily in some obvious examples of informational attacks against Ukraine.
For example, an article about “arms procurement from Ukraine to Libya contrary to the UN embargo” was massively spread in the internet in April of 2013. In spite of the fact that the mass media referred to the respected news agency The Washington Post I think its journalists were surprised to become victims of someone’s information rendering that was delivered in the article «UN panel: Libyan weapons are spreading at an alarming rate to the new areas and fueling conflicts».
The Washington Post published the short variant of the article, written by the famous journalist Edith Lederer of the worldwide known news agency Associated Press, which as a result unconsciously became the source of information for starting informational campaign against Ukraine.
Russian mass media republished the information about “illegal procurements of weapon to Libya from Ukraine” and not a lot of people cared that the author of the article titled «UN PANEL: LIBYAN WEAPONS SPREAD AT ALARMING RATE» wanted to deliver to the attention of the world audience the other thing. And the main idea of that article was a great problem of uncontrolled weapon spreading that stayed under the official record after bloody civil war in Libya and that weapon may cause new victims in the exhausted by civil conflicts region.
But Russian colleagues of E.Lederer concentrated on the other thing, and started spreading news with eloquent headings like “Armenia and Ukraine illegally shipped arms to Libya” and that was the start of informational attacks on Ukraine.
Moreover, that was not the first informational attack of Russia against Ukraine in the frame of Libyan conflict. For example the wave of hysterical articles in the Russian mass media and blogs in 2011 about “Ukrainian mercenaries and snipers” which had fought on the side of Gaddafi, as a result of hiring Ukrainian engineers by Russian company “Dakar” and exposing them for Libyan rebels as the regime supporters.
As a result, Ukraine appeared in the middle of international scandal and suffered some reputational and financial losses. At the same time, according to many experts, the main goal of the above-mentioned action was preventing Ukrainian defense enterprises from entering Libyan market, where it could become a worthy competitor to Russian enterprises.
And the most interesting is that the story about Ukraine as a country which sells weapons to all countries in the world against all sanction and “raises” mercenaries of all kinds continued to develop in Syrian conflict. And Ukraine may become a victim of informational provocations of Russian informational space once again. Herein these provocations are aimed to pull out Ukrainian export from the whole Middle East region.
Arabic buyers have stopped paying attention to military equipment sellers from Russia since 2011 because of their support of Gaddafi and Assad’s regimes. As a result Ukraine could fill the vacuum on the market. But the overblown scandal about supplying Syrian opposition by munitions manufactured in Ukraine shows that Russian exporters actively try to strike a blow against it.
In October of 2012 Russian regional office of BBC published a statement “Syria: fighters possess Ukrainian arms from Saudi Arabia”. Herewith the main accent was made on the fact that the arms were produced in Ukraine and on them being delivered to Syria against all sanctions imposed by the UN against this country. Further this statement was actively spread by Russian internet mass media.
Willing to write a sensation Russian mass media started to expound information from BBC incorrectly taking the massage out of context and writing headlines like: “Syrian rebels possess Ukrainian weapon”, “Rebels in Syria use Ukrainian weapon from Lughansk”, “Ukrainian weapon found at Syrian rebels”.
And the most interesting fact is that the starting massage titled “Syria: fighters possess Ukrainian weapon from Saudi Arabia” at BBC website was further deleted, probably because of being considered as untruthful.
Recalling few past months, after appearing in international mass media massages in January 2013 about using chemical weapon by regime army in Syria, Ukraine found itself in the middle of international scandal again. Unknown hacker which had been widely popularized by Russian internet mass-media allegedly hacked the e-mail box of British company “Britam Defence” and unexpectedly discovered a plot against Russia and Syria where the key role should be played by “Ukrainian mercenaries”.
Later on these Russian experts conducted analysis of “Britam Defence” company management faked correspondence, which was typed on the company’s real internal blanks, and concluded that the USA and Katar had decided to use “Ukrainian mercenaries” for clothing them like Russians and charge Russia with using chemical weapon after.
Considering the uncertainty of this question media hype of this provocation went quiet slowly but in the end of April after new massages about chemical weapon use by Assad’s army had appeared it revived again.
Some Russian mass media, not having any better idea, had posted January material setting it up like a fresh sensation with headlines like “England is preparing provocation against Russia in Syria by hands of Ukraine”, “Kiev will be blamed in chemical weapon procurement”. Moreover informational space was charged by other massages hard to define their truthfulness, like “Ukrainians are being recruited as mercenaries in Syria”, “Mercenaries for fighting in Syria are being recruited in Crimea”, “Ukrainian mercenaries in Syria are crueler then Nazis”.
Who publishes this massages and who grants orders for that is unknown…
Important fact for experts’ consideration is absence of any official charges in breaching international sanctions forbidding selling military goods during all informational attacks. Ukraine is guilty only in one thing and that is being powerful player in the world market of weapon and ability to compete with others.
