HOULTON, Maine — Houlton High School has announced its honor parts for its 2013 graduation:
Valedictorian Rebekah Holmes is the daughter of Christopher and Mary-Ann Holmes of Houlton. Rebekah is vice president of Houlton’s Chapter of the National Honor Society and serves as Student Council secretary/treasurer as well as class vice president. Rebekah has received the Principal’s Award each year and is the recipient of the St. Thomas Book Award, the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award, and the eighth-grade Maine State Citizenship Award. In addition, she was named Student of the Month for Excellence in English.
Rebekah participates in soccer, Adopt-A-Block of Aroostook, Youth Group, the Houlton School of Dance, and she is a Sunday school teacher. She is also a long-time participant in the Soap Box Derby, and her hobbies include running, reading, and skiing. Rebekah will attend Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill., where she will study Applied Health Science pursuing a degree in Pre-Med.
Salutatorian Allyson Carmichael is the daughter of Kevin and Marie Carmichael of Houlton. Allyson is president of Houlton’s Chapter of the National Honor Society and serves on Student Council as well as being a class officer. Allyson has received the Principal’s Award each year and the Houlton High School English Award during her sophomore and junior year. She is the recipient of the Maine Principals’ Association Principal’s Award, and the eighth-grade Maine State Citizenship Award. Furthermore, Allyson has been presented with the Phi Beta Kappa Certificate of Recognition.
Allyson participates in Off Beat Percussion Ensemble, Show Choir, Band, Chorus, Fall Musical, and the Symphonic Honors Band. She was also a member of Houlton High School’s Varsity Soccer team, has participated in Dirigo Girls State, attended the New England Student Leadership Conference, and is a Houlton High School mentor. Allyson was selected to participate in the Rotary Youth Exchange Program where she spent time in Italy. Allyson will be attending Bowdoin College in Brunswick, to pursue a degree in Biology.
