Hermon High School announces 2013 honor parts

HERMON, Maine — Principal Brian M. Walsh has announced the honor parts for the Hermon High School graduating Class of 2013.  Commencement ceremonies will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, at the Collins Center for the Arts, Orono.

Samantha Jane Bullard, daughter of Robert Bullard of Bangor and Judy Higgins of Levant, has been named valedictorian of her class. She will attend the University of Maine in Orono, majoring in engineering.

She was a four-year member of the Student Council, cross country, indoor and outdoor track, and a two-year member of the Hermon chapter of the National Honor Society serving as president her senior year.

Samantha also has been an active participant in the performing and fine arts. She has participated in symphonic band, the annual fall musical production, and numerous plays and theater arts performances.    She received high honors for her fine art at the University of  Maine Museum of Art and her work has been displayed in the community at the Bangor Mall.

Samantha received the Anne Norton Sportsmanship Award in track senior year, was named student of the month numerous times and was on the honor roll all four years. She has earned Academic Achievement Awards in U.S. History, Geometry, English, Biology, Art, and Spanish.

She also has volunteered at Cornerstone Baptist Church, as well as at Hermon High with Freshmen Orientation and as a tutor.

Ashley Marie Langille, daughter of Thomas and Deborah Langille of Hermon, has been named salutatorian of the Class of 2013. She will attend Liberty University in the fall majoring in psychology.

Ashley participated in the One-Act theatrical competition for three years, was a member of student council, band, yearbook, and the National Honor Society and served as a manager to the new varsity football team for two years.

Ashley received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award and received third place honors in the Voice of Democracy essay contest. She has received high honor recognition for all four years and was recognized as the student of the month. She has earned Academic Achievement Awards in Advanced Placement Literature, Advanced Placement Language,  Honors Spanish, Honors English, Chemistry, Health, and Conflict Resolution.

She volunteers on many community projects with her church, such as feeding the homeless and creating food packets for malnourished children in Africa.
