This summer Greater Portland Landmarks will be offering the following exclusive tours: Weekly guided tours of the U.S. Custom House in Portland will be offered on Wednesday mornings at 10:30am and 11:30 am through October 25th. Built in 1872 in the Second Empire and Renaissance Revival styles, the building was constructed to impress merchants from abroad as they came into Portland and today it stands as a monument to the time when Portland was one of the most significant seaports in the country. In addition on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 10:00am to 11:30pm through October 6th, Landmarks offers a guided walking tour of the Spring Street Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. Guides show a variety of architectural styles, and share stories of how Portland’s wealthy residents put their success on display one building at a time.
