The University of Maine at Fort Kent Blake Library Gallery will host exhibit “Eclectic Miscellany” by Artist Michelle Richardson. The exhibit will be on display from through Thursday, August 14, 2014.
According to Richardson, “The exhibit will consist of a variety of mediums and subjects to which I wryly apply the title ‘Eclectic Miscellany.’ I used mediums ranging from pencil, to acrylics to alcohol inks; often pairing texturing gels and pastes with brilliant color palettes to enhance the subject and add visual interest.”
Richardson, a self-made artist of the past ten years, takes an exploratory approach to style, and says, “I am well aware that more than ever my art is reflecting the subconscious of that rambling entity I call a mind. I think it will be clear to viewers that I’ve been in a rather whimsical mood for a couple of years now.”
The collection is a mix of different mediums and styles. One of her works involves hand-pressed leaves mounted on an inked clay-board while another was sculpted using air-dry clay, fiber paste, and glass beads suspended in a clear gel. The subject matter in her work ranges from imaginary landscapes to fantastical creatures.
Richardson enjoys sharing her work with the public. She says, “Every person brings a different perspective to a viewing. I find those differences fascinating.”
The exhibit may be viewed during regular Blake Library hours. For more information, please contact Gallery Curator Sofia Birden at (207) 834-7527.
