WATERVILLE — At Bricks Coworking & Innovation Space in Waterville on Aug. 8, Nick Rimsa spoke with a gathering of Waterville’s community about Eariously, software he and his partner Brendan Barr are currently designing and developing.

Eariously is a software company based in Waterville. Eariously turns any digital text (e.g. websites, emails, articles, PDFs, images) into audio that can be listened to on a phone or laptop. The team has over 20 years of software design and development experience. The company has focused on developing software for two groups of listeners: busy college students who want to listen to their reading assignments and busy commuters who want to consume more information but don’t have the time.

During the discussion, Nick focused on the company’s past year of progress, why they decided to make Waterville their home, and their predictions about the future of audio. After teaching a product design course at Colby College, Nick and Brendan decided to stay in Waterville because of their ability to operate their self-funded startup inexpensively and because of the constant support from the community they now call their home.

“We’re newcomers to the central Maine community. But, thanks to the tireless support we’ve received from friends new and old, we feel more and more at home here every day,” said Nick. “Whether it’s the Central Maine Growth Council, Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, our supporters at Colby College and Thomas College, the leaders of Waterville Public Library, or where we work at Bricks Coworking, living and working here has been ideal.”

RJ Anzelc, owner of Bricks Coworking & Innovation Space, said, “The support in this community for innovative ideas is tremendous. It actually has started a bit of a snowball effect as others want to be involved with innovative ideas and the people behind them. Eariously is leading the way not only in bringing innovative ideas to the community, but also in helping those looking to create.”

Eariously hopes to begin selling subscriptions by the end of the year. Readers interested in listening to Eariously can signup for the waiting list at Eariously.com
