Saviours of Soul: A Commitments Tribute Project, will perform its first live concert at the Portland House of Music on Friday, November 18th; doors open at 8pm. In 1991, a movie called “The Commitments” (now streaming on Netflix) depicted the rise and fall of a Dublin soul cover band. Although their success seemed unlikely, their talent couldn’t be denied…and neither could the music they honored. Saviours of Soul is a tribute to this movie and its music.
Saviours of Soul features musicians from local popular bands such as the Bob Charest Band, J. Biddy, Loki, and Sly Chi. The group will be performing hits from the glory days of soul music from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Sam and Dave, Wilson Pickett, and others.
A portion of proceeds for this one-night event will be donated to L.E.A.A.P. (Law Enforcement Addiction Advocacy Program), a new treatment program started by the Portland Police Department in 2016 to treat, not incarcerate, people with addiction issues.
