BANGOR — In an effort to reopen some in-person services for Bangor residents while maintaining proper social distancing, the City of Bangor will temporarily relocate the treasury department to the Cross Insurance Center.

The treasury department will open to Bangor residents at the Cross Insurance Center beginning Tuesday, May 26. Initial hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The hour from 7-8 a.m. each day will be dedicated to senior citizens and individuals with compromised immune systems. Moving forward, hours of operation may be adjusted depending upon demand.

Vehicle registrations at this time are being done on a voluntary basis. Under the Governor’s existing executive order, vehicles do not need to be registered or renewed until 30 days after the emergency order is revoked. At this time, the earliest that the registration deadline could be is July 11.

Many Treasury department transactions, like tax payments, utility payments and registration renewals, can be conducted online at bangormaine.gov/treasury.

For the safety of the public and staff, the city asks that, whenever possible, there only be one person per transaction. In addition, in-person transactions will be limited to five per person. Residents are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering when visiting the Cross Insurance Center and conducting transactions.
