BANGOR, Maine — Bangor Federal Credit Union has unveiled a new form of technology that will change the way consumers do their banking. Their new interactive teller machines, also known as ITMs, are available at their three locations on Hogan Road and Venture Way in Bangor, and on Dirigo Drive in Brewer.

Bangor Federal is one of the first financial institutions in the area to introduce this technology, which increases user security, allows for multiple transaction options, including check and cash deposits, and provides their membership with extended hours of bank operations.

“Bangor Federal serves over 15,000 members and just over half of these individuals carry our debit card,” Bangor Federal President and CEO Steve Clark said in a press release. “What is most exciting with the Interactive Teller Machines is that the remaining members who do not have a Bangor Federal debit card are still able to use the ITMs and process transactions by simply touching the screen to talk with a live credit union employee!”

ITMs were introduced in 2012 by NCR, a New York-based technology company. According to a report done by the Washington Post, NCR Vice President Brian Bailey said that the ITM “does 95 percent of what a teller can do inside the branch.”

ITMs allow members to have a real-time, face-to-face conversation with a credit union employee via video link. The simple, user-friendly interface helps consumers with their banking needs.

ITMs offer more than a traditional ATM. Members are able to deposit up to 30 checks in a single transaction, and can deposit money in any denomination. They can also make loan or credit card payments — all by machine. ITMs also function as a traditional ATM, so simple withdrawals and balance checks are available.

“ITMs are a convenient and efficient way to do your banking. The face-to-face service offered by our ITMs is perhaps the best part, as members can interact with Bangor Federal tellers like me. I hope that our members will stop by to give it a try, and nonmembers will consider opening an account to take advantage of this new service,” Bangor Federal Contact Center Representative Bobbi Jo Lavin said in the press release.

The ITMs are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, which allows members more flexibility with their banking at Bangor Federal. To learn more about Bangor Federal’s ITMs, please visit
