Baker Newman Noyes Promotes Eleven, Welcomes Nine New Employees in Maine

PORTLAND, Maine– Baker Newman Noyes (BNN), one of the nation’s top 100 accounting and consulting firms, recently shared news of eleven promotions and nine new hires in its Portland office.

Recent promotions include:

– Daniel Levesque, CPA, MSA, of Mashpee, Massachusetts, was promoted to manager in the audit practice. Levesque earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in accounting and finance, summa cum laude, and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of New Hampshire. He specializes in serving governmental agencies, financial institutions, and commercial companies. He has been with the firm since 2011.

– Sabrina Christian, of Mashpee, Massachusetts, was promoted to manager in the audit practice. Christian earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting, magna cum laude, from Saint Anselm College. She joined the firm in 2011 and specializes in serving student loan, healthcare and not-for-profit clients.

– Matthew Fernandez, of Kennebunk, Maine, was promoted to manager in the audit practice. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Southern Maine. Fernandez specializes in serving financial institutions and employee benefit plans. He has been with the firm since 2009.

– Jane Rankin, CPA, MBA, of North Yarmouth, Maine, was promoted to manager in the audit practice. Rankin earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting, summa cum laude, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Maine. She specializes in serving healthcare, commercial, and employee benefit plan clients and has been with the firm since 2011.

– Michael Meserve, CPA, of Kennebunkport, Maine, was promoted to manager in the audit practice. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in accounting, from the University of New Hampshire and a master’s degree in accounting from Northeastern University. Meserve focuses on serving the banking industry. He serves as treasurer for the Art Guild of the Kennebunks. He joined the firm in 2011.

– Michael Bailey, of Saco, Maine, was promoted to senior in the audit practice. He earned his bachelor’s degree in financial economics, with a minor in accounting, summa cum laude, from the University of Maine in Orono. Bailey joined the firm in 2014.

– Benjamin Hubert, CPA, of Augusta, Maine, was promoted to senior in the audit practice. Hubert earned bachelor’s degrees in accounting and IT management and a master’s degree in business administration, summa cum laude, from Thomas College. He joined the firm in 2014.

– Danielle Laverriere, of Biddeford, Maine, was promoted to senior in the audit practice. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine in Orono and joined the firm in 2015.

– Kelly Parks, CPA, of Windham, Maine, was promoted to senior in the tax practice. She earned her accounting certificate from the University of Southern Maine. Parks joined the firm in 2014.

– Nicole Shaffer, of Gorham, Maine, was promoted to senior proposal coordinator in the marketing department. Shaffer earned her bachelor’s degree in advertising/public relations and history from Penn State University, where she served as a legislative fellow for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Judiciary Committee. She is a member of the Portland Kiwanis, the Development Board for the Coastal Humane Society, the Maine Track Club and Crow Athletics, as well as a “Big Sister” with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine and a volunteer for the Penn State Alumni Association.

– Cheri Lozoraitis was promoted to international tax specialist in the tax practice. Lozoraitis earned her bachelor’s degree in linguistics, summa cum laude, from the University of Southern Maine in 2013, and joined the firm the same year.

Recent hires include:

– Dustin Kaubris, of Dover, New Hampshire, was hired as a staff member in the audit practice. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of New Hampshire.

– Christopher Long, of Nashua, New Hampshire, was hired as a staff member in the audit practice. He earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in accounting from the University of New Hampshire.

– Mikenzi Merrill, of Waterford, Maine, was hired as a staff member in the audit practice. Merrill earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in accounting, from Thomas College. She previously interned with the firm during the 2016 tax season.

– Michael Trahan, of Gardiner, Maine, was hired as a staff member in the audit practice. Trahan previously interned with the firm in 2015. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance, summa cum laude, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern Maine.

– Jena Williams, of Hardwick, Vermont, was hired as a staff member in the audit practice. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of New Hampshire.

– Danielle Hansen, JD, of Portland, Maine, was hired as a staff member in the tax practice. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and a juris doctor from the University of Maine School of Law. Hansen interned with the firm during the 2016 and 2015 tax seasons.

– Kelsey Livermore, of Kennebunk, Maine, was hired as a staff member in the tax practice. She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting and master’s degree in business administration from Husson University. Livermore interned with the firm in the spring of 2015.

– Connor Smart, of Lincoln, Maine, was hired as a staff member in the tax practice. Smart earned bachelor’s degrees in accounting and finance, with highest honors, from the University of Maine, Orono, where he also graduated from the Honors College and was salutatorian of the class of 2016. He received several awards during his time at school, including the Outstanding Business Student for the Class of 2016 and Academic Excellence in Accounting Award. A member of Beta Gamma Sigma and the Institute of Management Accountants, Smart also participated in the Black Bears Men’s Chorus and served as a student tutor and peer mentor on campus.

– Mikala Varela, MBA, of Westbrook, Maine, was hired as a staff member in the tax practice. Varela earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting and master’s degree in business administration from Husson University where she graduated as valedictorian of the class of 2016. At school, Varela was the president of the Husson Accounting Society and senator of Husson Student Government, and served as a peer tutor and resident assistant. She received the Financial Executives International Outstanding Senior Award and Academic Relations Committee Scholarship, and the Robert E. White Excellence in Accounting Award. Prior to joining the firm, Varela interned at BNN in the spring of 2016.
