Berman & Simmons is proud to recognize the national leadership of one of its attorneys, Daniel Kagan, as he celebrates his 20th year as a governor for the American Association for Justice (AAJ) , the preeminent national organization for trial lawyers.

“It is such an honor to serve the cause of civil justice through AAJ leadership,” Kagan said. “I have seen first-hand that Maine’s trial lawyers are among the country’s best, advocating with wisdom, dedication, and compassion. I look forward to continuing the fight to ensure access to  justice, statewide and nationwide.”

Kagan is a native of Bangor who now lives in Freeport. He is one of Maine’s leading trial lawyers, with a record of jury verdicts and settlements in complex and difficult personal injury cases. A past-president of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association, Kagan was appointed to the AAJ national governing board in 1998. Kagan leads a Maine delegation to AAJ that includes several Berman & Simmons attorneys, including Michael Bigos and Susan Faunce.

“Daniel Kagan has provided a strong voice for Maine at the national level of trial lawyer practice,” said Craig Bramley, Berman & Simmons’ managing director. “His consistent commitment to advocacy through AAJ has been invaluable, and we are grateful.”

Since joining Berman & Simmons in 1989, Kagan has often taken on controversial cases that play out in the public spotlight. He is one of several lawyers in the firm who have achieved jury trial verdicts in excess of $1 million. His statewide practice emphasizes serious and complex wrongful death, products liability and personal injury matters. With a particular interest in mechanical, system and design failures, Kagan has won verdicts and settlements for victims killed or injured by all types of defectively designed or maintained machines, including vehicles such as ATVs, snowmobiles, motorcycles, cars, trucks, and amusement rides.

The mission of the American Association for Justice is to promote a fair and effective justice system and to support the work of attorneys in their efforts to ensure that any person who is injured by the misconduct or negligence of others can obtain justice in America’s courtrooms, even when taking on the most powerful interests.
