AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine — Aroostook Savings and Loan recently awarded two local county students with $4,000 scholarships toward their college education.

Adam Collins, a 2014 Caribou High School graduate, will be a freshman at the University of Maine at Orono, where he plans to major in business. He is the son of Gregg and Lori Collins.

Kelsey Buck, a 2012 Presque Isle High School graduate, will be a sophomore at the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in elementary education. She is the daughter of Brent and Felicia Buck.

“The board of directors started the scholarship fund program in 2000 to help our association members and their families with pursuing their higher education,” said John Swanberg, Aroostook Savings and Loan president. “We know how important a college education is today. This is just one way of showing our appreciation to our customers for their loyalty throughout the years, and to thank them for their continued support of our association.”

Since its inception, the program has paid out $91,000 in scholarships. With the cost of tuition increasing each year, these funds have helped many Aroostook County families cover educational expenses.
