AUBURN, Maine — A longtime teacher, coach and athletic director at Saint Dominic Academy, Bob Boucher dedicated his professional life to teaching students the importance of character and fair play.

In an effort to support the student experience and the athletic program at the school, the eighth annual Bob Boucher Memorial 5K Run/Walk will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Saint Dominic Academy,  121 Gracelawn Road in Auburn.

Organizers aim to raise money for scholarships and a variety of institutional improvements and to honor a man who devoted his life to improving his students’ lives in countless ways.

“Whether as teacher, coach or athletic director, Bob used his gifts and talents to strengthen his students academically, physically and spiritually,” said Donald Fournier, president at Saint Dominic Academy, in a Roman Catholic Diocese of Maine press release. “He was the embodiment of the school’s three character traits — integrity, community and excellence — and was a role model for all.”

Bob Boucher spent 25 years as the coach of the storied Saint Dominic Academy hockey program, winning five state titles and earning five Coach of the Year awards along the way. He also coached the varsity soccer team for 16 years and started up the lacrosse and golf teams. During his tenure as an athletic director/teacher, the school’s athletic department grew from 14sports teams to 33. In 2006, Boucher was inducted into the Lewiston-Auburn Sports Hall of Fame and was inducted posthumously into the Saint Dominic Academy Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award.

To register for the Bob Boucher Memorial 5K Run/Walk, contact the Alumni/Development Office at (207) 782-6911, ext. 2109. The cost is $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the race.
