BANGOR – The Nite Show with Danny Cashman is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the NBC sitcom ALF by bringing one of the show’s stars to Maine. Andrea Elson, who played Lynn Tanner on the show, will visit The Nite Show on an episode scheduled to air on Saturday, Nov. 12.
“I grew up watching ALF,” said Nite Show host Danny Cashman. “It was appointment viewing for my family on Monday nights. ALF’s sarcastic, wise-cracking attitude always struck me as funny, and the family on the show seemed very normal and familiar to me. It’s exciting for all of us ‘80s kids’ involved in the show to bring Andrea to Maine to talk about such an iconic show from our childhoods.”
The premise of ALF focused on the Tanner family, and the alien who crash-landed his spacecraft into their garage. ALF was kept hidden from neighbors, co-workers, and classmates in order to keep the government from taking him away. What resulted was four years of television that saw ratings success and critical acclaim for NBC.
Even though the show ALF was canceled in 1990, the character lived on through guest appearances on other shows, his own late night talk show called ALF’s Hit Talk Show, and even jobs as a commercial spokesperson.
“It’s always been a goal of ours on this show to blend local with national,” said Cashman. “We’ve been fortunate to bring some great guests in from away, and Andrea is no exception. She’s thrilled to be making her first trip to Maine and joining us on the show.”
The show will be taped this Wednesday, October 26, at Husson University’s Gracie Theatre. Other guests for the evening include veteran political correspondent for Maine Public, Mal Leary; and music from Shane Reis. Free tickets area available to the taping via The Nite Show’s website, www.theniteshowmaine.com.
