BELFAST — Belfast’s Colonial Theatre is celebrating the holidays with one of the Belfast area’s favorite activity: the 25th annual Free Family Holiday Matinee Film Series. Starting the weekend of Thanksgiving and right up until just before Christmas, the Colonial Theatre will be hosting free movies for the whole family every 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday.
The movies are geared towards children but everyone is welcome with or without kids.
To make room for everyone The Colonial Theatre will show the 12:30 p.m. movie on two screens and have 275 seats available. At the 3 p.m. show, the theatre has 150 seats so come to the early show and be sure of a seat at this very popular holiday event.
Nov. 30-Dec. 1: “Dora the Explorer and the Lost City of Gold”: Live action. Dora heads into her most dangerous adventure: high school. Quickly this family friendly winner has to enlist a rag tag group of teens and her best friend Boots to rescue her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind the city of gold. PG
Dec. 7-8: “The Angry Birds Movie 2”: Animated comedy. The flightless but really angry birds and the scheming green piggies take their beef to the next level in “The Angry Birds Movie 2.” When a new threat emerges that puts both Bird and Pig Island in danger they must team up to forge an unsteady truce and form an unlikely superteam to save their homes. PG
Dec. 14- 15: “Abominable”: Animated Comedy. When a teen encounters a young yeti on the roof of her apartment building in Shanghai, she and her mischievous friends name him “Everest” and embark on an epic quest to reunite the magical creature with his family at the highest point on Earth. But the trio of friends will have to stay one-step ahead of Yeti hunters to help Everest get home. PG
Dec. 21-22: “The Addams Family”: With eye popping animation get ready to snap your fingers! The first family of haunted houses, the Addams Family, is back on the big screen in the first animated comedy about the kookiest family on the block. Funny, outlandish, and completely iconic, the Addams Family redefines what it means to be a good neighbor. PG
