The new coronavirus has led to cuts at one of Maine’s biggest employers.

WEX Inc. said it is laying off 45 people and temporarily furloughing 90 more employees.

The company, which just opened its brand-new downtown Portland headquarters, said it has to adjust as worldwide business has come to standstill.

WEX processes corporate payments across for fleet vehicles, travel and health care industries.
