A shooting in Westbrook appears to have been accidental and self-inflicted, police said Tuesday.

The victim was shot on Central Street at about 12:40 p.m. and Westbrook police who responded learned shortly after getting there that a Portland Fire Department ambulance had taken the victim to the Maine Medical Center Urgent Care Plus in Portland, Westbrook police said in a statement.

The patient’s injuries seem non-life threatening. The investigation is continuing, Westbrook Police Department Capt. Steven Goldberg said in a statement.
