The underside of the Kelley Road bridge that passes over Interstate 95 in Orono shows signs of deterioration.

Repairs are being made on the Kelley Road Bridge in Orono.

That work began last week, and is expected to continue into October, according to Paul Merrill, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Transportation.

The bridge, which spans Interstate 95, has seen better days. Chlorinated water seeps through the bridge’s joints and crews must work to keep pieces of the bridge’s underbelly from falling onto the road below.

Merrill said the bridge’s desk and bearings will be replaced, and its piers repaired.

The work could result in lane closures on the interstate through May 11, and the bridge could be closed from mid-May through late August, he said.

The work is being done by CPM Constructors of Freeport. The project’s estimated cost is $1,992,228.52, according to Merrill.
