University of Maine swimmer Ines Khiyara placed fifth in the 200 individual medley in Friday’s ECAC Championships at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. The senior from Belgium finished in 2 minutes, 5.28 seconds to establish a Black Bears record.
Khiyara, who swam a 2:06.34 in the 200 IM at the America East Conference Championship, turned in a 27.8 butterfly leg followed by a 32.3 backstroke and a 35.4 breaststroke before closing with a 29.6 freestyle.
Black Bears sprinter Andy Sprague claimed 11th in the 50-yard free with a 20.80 finish.
Brendan Sullivan of Berwick, racing for Navy in the 50 free, scored sixth at 20.68.
Competition continues through Sunday.
