An Auburn man who was seriously injured Friday night in a motorcycle crash on Lewiston Road in New Gloucester has died.

Alec Blanchard, 26, was riding a motorcycle at a high rate of speed and passing several vehicles on Lewiston Road, also known as Route 202, about 9:20 p.m. Friday when he lost control of his motorcycle, which went on its side and skidded several hundred feet down the road, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Blanchard was found face down in the road, and he was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he succumbed to his injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

The crash remains under investigation.
