Theresa Ronco, 47, of South Portland was charged with reckless conduct and driving while intoxicated after driving the wrong way on Interstate 95.

DOVER, New Hampshire — A Maine woman who allegedly drove the wrong way on Interstate 95, first spotted in Greenland, and on the Spaulding Turnpike, is being charged with reckless conduct and driving while intoxicated, police said.

Theresa Ronco, 47, of South Portland, was first reported to New Hampshire State Police after she was seen in her SUV-type vehicle about 3:10 a.m. Sunday driving northbound in the southbound lanes near mile marker 11, according to police. As troopers responded to the area, additional callers notified police the SUV was now northbound on Route 16 in the southbound lanes.

Dover tollbooth operators on Route 16 (Spaulding Turnpike) were notified and asked to hold all southbound traffic, police said. Trooper Peter Sankowich located the vehicle as it was approaching the Dover tolls and stopped it. Sankowich observed multiple signs of alcohol impairment and after a roadside investigation, Ronco, was arrested, police said.

She was subsequently transported to the Newington Police Department for processing and was later released on bail. Ronco is scheduled to appear in the Strafford County Superior Court on Sept. 19 for arraignment.
