A man drowned on Friday after a boating accident in Livermore, according to Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti.
Henry Zinck, 88, of Rumford was a passenger in a 12-foot aluminum motor boat on Brettuns Pond. Barbara Lizotte, 71, of Auburn, was a passenger, and 88-year-old Peter Dragoon of Livermore was operating the boat.
According to a press release sent out by MDIFW on Saturday morning, the boat began to take on water and eventually submerged and sank, and all three individuals on board attempted to make it back to shore, a distance of about 75 yards away. A 911 call came in shortly after 1 p.m. on Friday.
Zinck was not wearing a life jacket and was found unresponsive at the scene by emergency personnel and by two game wardens. Maine game warden divers retrieved the boat from the bottom of the pond on Friday evening.
