A Gouldsboro man is facing charges including arson after he allegedly stole a sport-utility vehicle and set it on fire.

Christopher Whynott, 26, was arrested Wednesday, nine days after a burned-out 2006 Dodge Durango was found off Alder Brook Road in Franklin, police said Thursday. The SUV had been taken from a home on Bert Gray Road in Sullivan, according to Stephen McCausland of Maine Department of Public Safety.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said that, in addition to the felony arson charge, Whynott has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, burglary of a motor vehicle and violating bail conditions from an earlier arrest, all of which are misdemeanors.

Whynott on Thursday remained held without bail at the Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth.
