Maine State Police say the woman who was found dead in an Augusta apartment Tuesday morning was likely Joan Hadley, 54, formerly of Windsor.

Police did not immediately determine a cause of death — though there are no obvious signs of foul play — and will conduct additional testing. The death likely took place in the past two weeks, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Hadley’s relatives have been notified of the death, and a positive identification from the medical examiner’s office will occur following DNA testing, McCausland said.

The body was found in a Water Street apartment after police received a call from the property managers of the five-unit apartment complex, according to The Associated Press.

Detectives contacted the man who rents the apartment, and he told them Hadley had his permission to stay there while he was staying elsewhere, McCausland said.
