Two people were hospitalized Sunday after a three-car collision at the intersection of Cross Road and Route 1 in Edgecomb.

Mary Wallace, 87, of Boothbay Harbor was driving a black Subaru Impreza, turning onto Route 1 from Cross Road, according to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detective Scott Hayden. Constance Schumann, 78, of Wiscasset was driving a white Chevrolet sedan north on Route 1.

It appears Wallace did not yield the right of way to Schumann, according to Hayden. He did not know which direction Wallace was turning.

After the initial collision, Wallace’s vehicle spun around and traveled back toward Cross Road, where it hit a gray Saab convertible waiting to turn onto Route 1, according to Hayden. The Wallace vehicle them came to rest in the brush off the southbound side of Cross Road.

Arthur Garey, 69, of Edgecomb was driving the convertible with a 9-year-old male passenger in the back seat, according to Hayden. Neither occupant was hurt.

Wallace was taken to a hospital with minor internal injuries, according to Hayden. Schumann was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. Neither had any passengers.

Lincoln County Communications dispatched the Edgecomb Fire Department around 10:50 a.m. Also responding were the Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Wiscasset Ambulance Service.

The fire department initially closed Route 1 to traffic, then opened one lane as vehicles and debris were removed from the area.
