Three people were injured Monday afternoon after a car and a converted bus crashed on Interstate 295 in Bowdoinham, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Troopers said the car attempted to pass the bus and struck its rear bumper, causing the bus to lose control and overturn off the road. The car also came to rest on the side of the interstate, McCausland said.
Two people were in the bus, which had been converted into an ice cream truck, and the driver was the only person in the car, McCausland said.
The three were taken to area hospitals with injuries that are not life-threatening, McCausland said.
The crash took place just north of the Bowdoinham exit in the northbound lane. The crash occurred near mile marker 39 and reduced traffic to one lane. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route and to drive with caution, according to a Facebook post from Maine State Police.
