At their Tuesday night meeting, South Berwick town councilors addressed gender-neutral language in town documents.
In 2006, it was estimated it would cost $10,000 to $15,000 to make existing town documents gender neutral. Instead, councilors agreed to make future documents gender neutral, but this did not happen.

“I’ve counted 144 instances of gender exclusive language,” said town councilor Abigail Kemble.
Councilors agreed to follow through on the 2006 goal.
“I don’t want to see $10,000 spent to revise the charter,” said Chairman Jack Kareckas, “but I would like us to move forward with gender neutral language from here on.”
