Sydney Choate, a 2013 graduate of Richmond High School, is seen in this screenshot from the music video "Take A Walk" from her band DaCav. The video was filmed in part at Richmond Middle and High School.

Sydney Choate, a member of the up-and-coming pop/hip-hop band DaCav and a Richmond native, told the Kennebec Journal she feels “grateful” for any fans who want to watch her perform.

Choate was discovered by now-bandmates Mikey and B Roc through her Instagram posts of cover songs, the newspaper reported.

Mikey and B Roc were original members of a Philadelphia group named DaCav5, which won an MTV Video Music Award, but the duo regrouped to form a new band and added Choate as a singer.

The music video for DaCav’s song “Let’s Take A Walk” was filmed in part at Richmond Middle and High School, where Choate graduated in 2013, the Kennebec Journal reported. The singer credited local teacher Virgil Bozeman, who teaches music and directs the Richmond High School chorus, with believing in her, even when many others didn’t.

“In small-town Maine, I was trying to be a singer,” she told the newspaper.

The video tackles the issue of bullying and stars local student Teeghan Gilpatric, in part.
