Burnham Road in Waldoboro is closed after the discovery of a sinkhole in the middle of the road.

The closure could last for several days.

According to the Waldoboro Fire Department in a Saturday afternoon Facebook post, the road is shut down to through traffic due to the 3-foot by 6-foot sinkhole.

It appears a culvert in the road has failed, according to the post.

The area is being blocked off by cones, barricades and signs.

Residents can use the south end of Burnham Road to access the area.

The town’s public works department is working on temporary repairs, but Burnham Road is expected to be shut down for several days.
