Woman accused of drunken driving after 3-car chain-reaction crash in York

A Wells woman has been accused of drunken driving after police say she was involved in a three-car chain-reaction crash in York on Wednesday evening.

Sarah Reeck, 38, was driving a black 2012 Toyota pickup northbound on Route 1, north of Old Post Road, about 6:27 p.m. when she rear-ended a green 2008 Toyota driven by 53-year-old Michelle Butler of York, sending Butler’s vehicle crashing into the rear of a green 2015 Subaru driven by 18-year-old Ethan Bald of Exeter, New Hampshire, according to York police Sgt. Brian Curtin.

Both Butler’s and Bald’s vehicles were stopped in traffic while Bald was waiting for a break in the southbound traffic to make a left turn off Route 1 onto Squire Lane, Curtin said.

Curtin said Reeck crashed into Butler’s Toyota at a high speed and that there was no evidence she attempted to stop or avoid the crash. All three cars became entangled in the wreck.

Reeck was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicating liquor and driving to endanger, among other traffic violations. She was taken to the York County Jail in Alfred, where she is being held on $160 bail.
