A Harmony man died and a Bingham woman was injured in a head-on crash on U.S. Route 201 in Bingham on Monday night, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened about a mile-and-a-half north of the state rest area on Route 201 at about 8 p.m., according to Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster. Michael Handy, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene. Jocelyn Jones, 31, was trapped in her Volkswagen Jetta, and the Bingham Fire Department had to extricate her. Handy was driving a Toyota Camry.
Jones was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office found that neither driver was wearing a seatbelt and that the crash happened in the center of the road. The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate to determine who was responsible. Both cars were totaled in the crash.
